Locates Loggerhead Cay, Tortugas Bank and includes a large inset chart of "Tortugas Harbour" showing Fort Jefferson, Long Cay, Bush Cay, Garden Cay, Bird Cay and Harbour. Surveyed by Commdr. Superb chart prepared by the French Navy under Antoine Sartine, Minister of Marine, shows coastal topography around the Florida Peninsula depicting harbors, points, keys, shoals and low water areas. Locates the St. John's River, St. Augustine, Cape Canaveral, Charlotte Harbor, Tampa Bay, St. Mark's River, Appalachicola Bay to Cape St. Blas & St. Josepb's Bay in western Florida. Many detailed soundings appear around the coast. Includes the Bahama Channel and the Bahama Islands; the Straits of Florida and the northern coast of Cuba. 3 compass roses & rhumb lines cross this superb chart.

Chart shows Cape Canaveral Fresh Water Ponds; a revolving light on shore and an anchorage. The South East Shoal, the Bull, Ohio Shoal, Hertzel Shoal. Many soundings are shown and "breakers in bad weather." Includes sailing directions for the Beach Channel and detailed navigational notes regarding anchorage, bottoms, soundings, courses and location of fresh water "by digging anywhere on the beach above high water mark." (Scarce issue.)

Locates Legare Anchoarge and Triumph Reef, Bache's Shoal and Bowles Bank. Shows many very detailed soundings throughout the area and includes navigational notes on tides, soundings and bottoms.

Depicts Loggerhead Key, Bird & Bush Keys, Hospital Key & smaller surrounding keys with connecting channels. Shows Tortugas Bank and depicts many very detailed soundings overall. Includes navigational notes on lighthouses, tides,buoys and currents. Very good condition.

Fine chart dissected on linen backing shows Key Largo, Long Island, Windlys Island & Upper and Lower Matecumbe Keys. Depicts a light on Alligator Reef and a beacon on Crocker's Reef. Locates Davis Reef, Little Conch Reef, Pickles Reef, Rodriguez Key, Molasses Reef, French Reef, Grecian Shoals and The Elbow. The region is covered in very detailed soundings and locates beacons and buoys. Includes navigational notes on the lighthouse at Alligator Reef, tides, soundings and buoys.

Fine large sea chart dissected on linen backing, shows Key West with small street block plan, Fort Taylor and the lighthouse. Locates the Northwest Channel, Mullet, Mule, Crawfish, Snipe, Boca Grande Keys and Boca Grande Channel. Depicts the Marquesas Keys; the Quick Sands and Half Moon Shoal and a light on Rebecca Shoals. Many very detailed soundings appear throughout the region and chart includes navigational notes on weather signal stations, lighthouses, tides, soundings, buoys and bottoms. 

FL160 - U. S. CORPS OF ENGINEERS "North West Entrance, Key West Harbor, Florida surveyed June 5 to 22nd, 1895 under the Direction of Major Thomas H. Handbury.." Wash. D. C. 1895. B/W. 13X14. Survey shows hundreds of intensely detailed depth soundings in feet and tenths. Mean range of tide at North West Light is 2.63 feet. Includes currents and the East Jetty. Also shown is a profile sketch of the Jetty in top left corner of the survey. 

FL164 - U. S. Coast Survey "Preliminary Chart of the Entrance to St. John's River, Florida." Wash. D. C. 1853. Colored. 18X14 Chart shows Fort Georgia Island and Inlet. Talbot and little Talbot Islands, Batton Island and Mayport Mills at the entrance to St. John's River. Many depth soundings appear offshore and into the river and inlet. Chart depicts many areas of sand and shoals and includes sailing direction for entering St. John's River and navigational notes on tides, courses and bearings. Excellent condition.

FL172 - CAPT. P. M. PRICE (Corps of Engineers.) “Pensacola Harbor. Plan shewing Relative Positions & Sections of Jetties Built for the Preservation of the Shoreline near Fort McRee”. Wash. D.C. 1890. B/W. 9X9¼. Long horizontal chart depicts cross sections of the Jetties & their locations in fine detail. Includes 4 page booklet with report of Capt. Price regarding work done during 1889 & a note on the re-survey of Pensacola Harbor. 

FL175 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Preliminary Chart of Cedar Keys & Approaches. Florida”. Wash. D. C. 1854. Colored. 23¼X19½. Large vertical chart shows thousands of depth soundings in the Mid Ship Channel leading to Cedar Keys. Depicts Snake, Sea Horse, Depot, Way and Scale Keys. Goose Cove, Boat Channel, Goose Flats & many smaller keys, rocks, ledges, reefs, banks & channels throughout the region. This is a fine early Coast Survey chart with detailed navigational notes on tides & bottoms. Latitudes & Longitudes & compass variations. 

FL178 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Ocilla River. Florida”. Wash. D. C. 1855. Colored. 12¼X9¼. Chart shows the entrance to the Ocilla River on Florida's northwest coast, with small islands and many depth soundings. Locates Green Point & Cabell Point & includes a note that says “vessels bound into Ocilla River should take a Pilot at St. Mark's for the river cannot be readily found by a stranger.....there is an anchorage 6 or 7 miles off the entrance in 3 fathoms of water, but it is not safe in heavy weather. Both sides of the entrance are low and marshy, the oppening cannot be distinguished from the anchorage”. Indications of rocks and oysters are noted in several areas. 

FL179 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Reconnaissance of Channel No. IV Cedar Keys, Florida”. Wash. D. C. 1852. Colored. 9½X11. Chart shows Cedar Keys with soundings, courses & bearings & detailed sailing directions for entering the keys. Also locates Hurricane Harbor, Otsona Otee or Depot Key in lower right, & includes navigational notes on tides. A very good depiction of Cedar Keys.

FL180 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Straits of Florida.” Wash. D. C. 1866. Colored. 9½X9. Small chart shows the Straits between Marquesas Keys, Key West, the Pine islands, Sombrero Key, Vaccas Key, Long & Indian Key and Cuba's northern coast, showing Havana & El Moro, and thence over to Bahia de Cadiz Cay. Also locates the Salt Key Bank & Elbow & Salt Keys, and shows sections of soundings across the Florida Channel from Sand Key Light to El Moro Light. April and May 1866. 

FL181 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Preliminary Survey of Turtle Reefs. Florida.” Wash. D.C. 1854. Partial color. 10X8. Small chart shows Carysfort Reef & Turtle Reef surrounded by hundreds of depth soundings. Includes courses & bearings & sailing directions for Carysfort Reef Lighthouse and the Beacon on Turtle Reef. 

FL182 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Reconnaissance of Coffin's Patches, Florida Reefs”. Wash. D.C. 1854. Partial color. 11X11½. Coffin's Patches or Shoals are in Lat.24°44" and Long. 80°58" W. About 6 miles SSW from the west end of Duck Key. Chart consists of hundreds of depth soundings expressed in feet. Includes compass rose. 

FL185 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Cedar Keys, Florida.” Wash. D.C. 1861. Partial color. 26X19. Large handsome chart shows the keys in strong contrast to the surrounding sea areas. Depicts Waccasassa Bay, Goose Island, Boat Channel, Depot Key, Sea Horse Key and Cedar Keys or Sea Horse Key Light. Hundreds of depth soundings are shown in sea areas & chart includes detailed sailing directions for the Main Ship Channel, North Key and Northwest Channels. Plus navigational notes on tides & dangers. A finely detailed chart. 

FL186 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Florida Reefs Showing the Approaches to Key West Harbor”. Wash. D. C. 1857. B/W. 16X23. Very detailed chart shows Snipe Key, Mud Key, Cudjoe Key, Sugar Loaf Key, Boca Chica and many smaller Keys over to Marquesas Key. Key West Harbor is located in center in outline & hundreds of depth soundings are depicted offshore in the Key West region. Includes navigational notes on tides, bottoms & lighthouses. The latter are noted as North West Channel, Key West and Sand Key. A fine chart in good condition. 

FL189 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Sketch F. No. 6. Showing the Proposed Site of a Beacon on Rebecca Shoal, Florida Reef by H. F. Gerdes. Asst. U.S.C.S.” Wash. D.C. 1851. Colored. 7½X7½. Finely engraved and detailed chart shows Rebecca Shoal, the Dry Tortugas & channels. The Quick Sands. The Reef Channel & Florida Reef. Boca Grande & Mangrove Keys. Depth of water on Rebecca Shoal is ten feet. Soundings are given in fathoms except within dotted lines which are in feet. An excellent small chart.

FL190 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Sketch F. No. 4 Reconnoissance of Vicinity of Cedar Keys. Coast of Florida by F. H. Gerdes. Asst. U.S. Coast Survey.” Wash. D.C. 1851. Colored. 8¼X7¾. Fine small chart of the Cedar Keys and Cedar Key Bay. Also depicts St. Martins Keys, Crystal River Harbor, Wethlocco-chee Bay, Wacasassa Bay, Suwanee Bay, Sea Horse Key & Reef. Includes depth soundings and detailed informational notes about the Keys. Finely engraved and detailed.

FL198 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Preliminary Chart of Florida Reefs From Key Biscayne to Carysfort Reef.” Wash. D.C. 1855. Colored. 13½X12. Intensely detailed chart shows hundreds of depth soundings from Key Biscayne down to Carysfort Reef and depicts the reefs and keys in between. The chart was drawn essentially for mariners navigating through a dangerous region of the Florida Reefs and to show low water areas, banks and channels. Excellent chart in good condition.

FL200 - A. ZATTA “Il Paese De Selvaggi Outaucesi E Killistinesi Intorno Al Lago Superiore.” Venice. 1778. Colored. 12X16½. Beautiful late 18th century map by a well-known Italian cartographer and publisher, Antonio Zatta (fl.1750-1804) shows Lake Superior with 5 islands in the center. With the exception of Isle Royale the other islands were fictitious and were the creation of Pierre Francois Charlevoix )1682-1761) a French Jesuit priest who explored Canada and America's northeastern regions between 1705-1720. Charlevoix created the islands to honor his Patron Jean Frederic Phelippeaux, Comte de Maurepas whose family estate was named Ponchartrain and whose Patron Saint was St. Anne. The fictitious islands of Phillipeaux, St. Anne, Maurepas and Ponchartrain appeared on many maps until later explorers were able to discount their existence in the early 19th century. The map of Florida was the creation of Antonio Zatta, and only he knew why he had placed it in the largely unexplored territory above Lake Superior! The map is Plate 1 from “Le Colonie Unite Dell' America Settentrle” a 12 sheet atlas based on John Mitchell's important map of the British and French dominions in North America.” Very good condition.

FL201 - ASHER & ADAMS “Florida” Wash. D.C. 1873. Colored.16X22. Handsome map shows both the Florida Peninsula & West Florida, ncluding an inset map titled “The Southern Portion of Florida” that includes the Keys and the Dry Tortugas. The map depicts harbors and bays around the coasts and inland shows counties and principal towns and villages, rivers, lakes, roads and railroads. Published in Asher & Adams “New Commercial, Topographical Gazetteer of the United States” in the late 19th century.

FL202 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Reconnaissance of the Bar & Channel of St. Marks On the Western Coast of Florida.” Wash. D.C. 1852. Colored. 16X12½. Finely engraved chart shows St. Marks with a hotel & stores & a fort on the River. It depicts Wakulla County & an abandoned railroad from Port Leon to St. Marks & locates Three & Four Mile Points, West Bayou, Goose Creek. The Devil's Elbow, Sprague Point, the Folly, Oyster Reef & St. Marks Point. Includes depth soundings, & sailing directions for entering the River with courses & navigational notes. Very good condition.

FL203 - C. G. COLBY “Florida” NY 1857. Colored. 6½X5. Small intensely detailed map of the State shows cities, towns and harbors at a time when Florida was just starting to be developed and settled. The map depicts many forts and battle grounds, the Everglades & Lake Okeechobee & includes an inset map titled “The South Part of Florida,” depicting the Keys and the Dry Tortugas. Published in 1857 by Samuel N. Gaston in ”The Diamond Atlas” it was drawn & edited by Charles G. Colby (1830-1866). A charming little map that would look attractive framed.

FL207 - V. VANNI “Piano Del Porto e Degli Stabilimenti di Pensacola.” Livorno. 1763. Colored. 10½X7½. This fine Italian map of Pensacola, Florida was published in “Gazzettiere Americano” in Livorno, Italy in the late 18th century. The map shows Pensacola and It's harbor, & Santa Rosa Island at it's entrance. Also depicts a large lake at the entrance to the harbor & small buildings along Pensacola's shore. A compass rose with fleur-de-lys motif & radiating rhumb lines completes this attractive picture. Engraved by Giuseppe Pazzi, it was published by Marco Coltellini. (Ref. Philip's Atlases. No. 1161. Page 586. Vol.3 #5.)

FL208 - A. J. JOHNSON “Johnson's Florida.” New York. 1863. Colored. 12X15. Fine State map shows counties in different colors with primary harbors noted around both east and west coasts. Depicts Lake Okee Cho Bee & Big Cypress, the Everglades, Appalachee Bay to Pensacola & Mobile Bay, Alabama. Depicts roads & railroads, forts, canals, land divisions, lakes and primary towns and villages. The Florida Keys are depicted in a separate inset in lower left. This excellent map portrays Florida at a time when it was beginning to be settled as roads and railroads opened the State to visitors from the north, and west, who came to build and develop the land and the sea-coast. The map was published in Johnson's “New Illustrated (Steel Plate) Family Atlas” in 1863.

FL209 - P. F. X. De CHARLEVOIX/J. N. BELLIN “Plan De La Baye De Pansacola Par N. B. Ingenieur de La Marine. 1744.” Paris. 1744. Colored. 7½X11 Fine early chart of Pensacola Harbor shows a large inlet at the harbor entrance, & the Isle De Rose. Depicts the settlement at Pensacola & includes points, bays, depth soundings, the Canal of Ste. Rose & the rivers L'Amirante & Jourdan. A point of land sticking out into the harbor is called La Terre Ferme. At the bottom of the chart is a colorful compass rose with fleur-de-lys motif & radiating rhumb lines, placed there as an aid to mariners approaching the harbor from the Gulf of Mexico. The chart was drawn from manuscript sketches brought back to Paris by Pierre Francois Xavier de Charlevoix (1682-1761) a Jesuit Priest who traveled through Canada & North America's eastern & southern regions from 1705-1720. It was engraved in Paris under the direction of Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) the Royal Hydrographer to the King & included in Charlevoix's “L'Histoire et Description Generale de la Nouvelle France” in 1744. The engraver was Guillaume Dheulland (1700-1770) a master engraver in 18th century Paris.

FL210 - U. S. COAST SURVEY “Preliminary Chart of Key West Harbor & Approaches From a Trigonometrical Survey under the Direction of A. D. Bache Superintendent of the Survey of the Coast of the United States.” Wash. D.C. 1852, Colored. 14½X17. Chart depicts Key West, Stock Island & Raccoon Key & was designed as an aid to mariners approaching the region. Many small Keys are drawn in surrounding waters with hundreds of depth soundings & courses located in the offshore waters. The chart includes several paragraphs of detailed sailing directions & navigational notes on tides, bottoms & coral heads. A finely engraved chart by the United States Coast Survey.

FL211 - U. S. COAST & GEODETIC SURVEY “Atlantic Coast. The Straits of Florida and Approaches.” Wash. D.C. 1893. B/W. 22X27¼. Finely detailed chart shows the Florida Peninsula, the Bahamas & the Northern Coast of Cuba featuring Habana Harbor. The chart includes thousands of depth soundings & indicates lighthouses, buoys & beacons, as well as courses. Depicts the Straits of Florida, the Northwest & Northeast Providence Channels, the Tongue of the Ocean, the Great Bahama Bank, & the Santaren Channel. Locates islands, keys, Exuma Sound, Eleuthera, Great Abaco & includes navigational notes for mariners entering the area from the offshore Atlantic Ocean. Includes the Seal of the U.S.C.G.S.

FL212 - U.S.C.G.S “Atlantic Coast. Florida Keys & Reefs.” Wash. D.C. 1893. B/W. 19X34. Long horizontal chart shows the southern tip of the Florida Peninsula from Key Biscayne on the southeast coast and Cape Sable on the southwestern shore. Depicts all the keys & islands across to Rebecca Shoal & the Dry Tortugas. Thousands of depth soundings appear in the sea areas & around the keys. Lighthouses, buoys & beacons have been strategically placed on the chart along with courses to aid mariners entering & sailing through this potentially dangerous area. This finely drawn chart was printed by A. Hoen & Co. Baltimore for the United States Coast & Geodetic Survey. Includes the Seal of the USCGS.

FL213 - BRITISH ADMIRALTY “North America. East Coast. Florida Reefs. Boca Grande Key to Dry Tortugas. Chiefly from United States Government Charts with Corrections to 1949 & 1967.” Wash. D.C. 1967.B/W. 26X38½. Excellent sea chart depicts thousands of depth soundings & locates the Marquesas Keys, The Quicksands, Rebecca Shoals & very detailed channels & courses through the Dry Tortugas. Includes a submarine exercise area & 4 compass roses as aids to mariners navigating this very treacherous area. Chart No. 525. Chart is in very good condition & was one of the best charts of the Dry Tortugas available in the 1960's.

FL214 - J. N. BELLIN “Plan De La Baye De Pensacola.” Paris. 1764. Colored. 8½X6½. Attractive chart shows the Bay & Harbor of Pensacola with Fort Charles at the entrance & Fort De Ste Rose on the opposite shore on Isle De Ste Rose. Depicts rivers flowing into the harbor & shows many depth soundings in the ship channels. Includes a colorful compass rose with fleur-de-lys motif & rhumb lines radiating across the chart, & a decorative title cartouche in lower left ornamented with leaf & scroll motifs. The chart was engraved under the direction of Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1702-1770) the Director of the Depot De La Marine in Paris, & Royal Hydrographer to the King & published in Belln's “Petit Atlas Maritime” in 1764.

Depicts Lake Oke-Cho-Bee, & the Everglades, Appalachee Bay & the State Capital of Tallahassee, Locates many forts along the shorelines, canals, rivers & railroads & includes an inset chart in lower left titled “Plan of the Florida Keys.” Published by John Hutchins Colton (1800-1893) in “Colton's Atlas of the World.” Good condition.
