Menelaion; Megalopolis, Triphylie & the Gulf of Argon (Argolis).
This small chart is finely engraved and detailed. |

London. 1862. (Updated to 1967.) B/W. 39X30½. This fine chart of the
island of Rhodes with some age-toning down left fold is included on our
listing because charts of Rhodes by itself are scarce and this is a
particularly handsome depiction of the island in large scale with all
harbors located and surrounded by hundreds of depth soundings in
fathoms. It also includes a small block plan
of Rhodes Harbor on the northeastern tip of the island and the chart was
drawn with both topographical and hydrographical details. Chart #1667
(Note: The outer marginal staining and age-toning can be removed by a
professional paper conservator. We have priced the chart relatively low
to allow for conservation if required.) |

The islands are surrounded by very detailed depth soundings in fathoms
and is an excellent navigational chart for mariners sailing through the
islands off the coast of Turkey in the southern Aegean Sea region. Chart

depth soundings in fathoms are depicted offshore and around the islands
and the chart has both topographical and hydrographical details. Fine.

1844. (corr. to 1882.) B/W. 10½10. Interesting chart of present day Cos
in the Dodecanese (Greece) in the Aegean Sea, which gave it's name to
Cos lettuce and was the birthplace of Hippocrates. This fine chart shows
hundreds of depth soundings around the islands, with land noted as
”uncultivated, but with rich soil abounding in clover” and many areas of

Paris. 1812. Colored. 9X12. Fine map of the Grecian Archipelago and
the Aegean Sea with all the islands as they were known in ancient times.
Locates Athens and the islands of Rhodes, Scarpanto (Carpathus), Icaria,
Lemnos, Samothrace, Lesbos, Samos & Crete. The title in lower left is
placed at the top of a pillared building which has a Grecian statue
inset between the columns. Engraved by J.B.M. Chamouin the map was
published under the direction of Capt. Pierre Lapie (1777-1850)
geographer to King Louis XVIII, and topographer to the French War
Department, and issued in “Atlas Complet Du Precis De La Geographie
Universelle” by Conrad Malte-Brun (1775-1826) in Paris. 1812. |

engraved map of the Grecean Archipelago shows all the islands between
the Aegean and Ionian Seas. Depicts Athens, and the islands of Rhodes,
Scarpanto, Milo, Lemnos, Metelin, Scio, Nicaria, Samothrace & Crete, and
depicts the Gulf of Saros, the Dardanelles and the Sea of Marmara. Crete
is named Criti or Candie and is situated in the Mediterranian Sea at the
base of the map. The title in lower left is drawn in a coastal scene
with high tree-covered cliffs, and a sailing
vessel offshore. Engraved by J. B.
Tardieu, the map was published under the direction of Capt.
Pierre Lapie (1777-1850) , geographer to King Louis XVIII & topographer
to the French War Department, and issued in “Atlas Complet Du Precis De
La Geographie Universelle” by Conrad Malte-Brun (1775-1826) in Paris.
