These pieces were painted by Thomas Whitcombe (1752-1824), an eminent marine artist who exhibited at the British Institution and the Royal Academy and whose works are currently represented at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England. Each item is accompanied by facsimile copies of the title page to the collection and copies of the related dispatches sent by the victorious British naval commanders to the British Admiralty in London, which summarized the various engagements.
