Elk Head, Maryland; the Schuylkill River to Pottsgrove, Frankfort,
Burlington, & Princeton, New Jersey & the Raritan River from its
entrance at Sandy Hook near Englishtown & Freehold. Many roads & rivers
cross the State & the chart shows the positions of the American &
British forces, particularly the American General Irvine's position
along the Delaware below Trenton in 1776. (Note: Samuel Lewis who drew
the chart was Lord's Commissioner for Trade & chartmaker for General

topographical and hydrographical details and includes a large inset
chart in top left of Absecom Inlet. The sea areas are dotted with
hundreds of depth soundings and show the Five Fathom Bank & Avalon
Shoal. Includes navigational notes on tides, beacons and buoys as well

1876. Colored. 16X12½, (Two maps on one sheet.) 1.Cherry Hill and New
Barbadoes in Midland Twp is now part of Hackensack, Rochelle Park and
Maywood, below Oradell & River Edge. The map depicts Hackensack and the
Old Hackensack Road, Grand Avenue and Fairmount and locates estates with
names of property owners. Also locates the track of the New Jersey & New
York Railroad and the Reservoir of the Hackensack Water Company. 2.
Arcola is also in Midland Twp, which is on the border of Saddle River
Twp and is currently Paramus. The map shows the Saddle River & private
estates with names of property owners, wool mills and a store. Midland
Township was in Bergen County, New Jersey in the late 19th century, and
these two maps are interesting as they show the County before it's
development in the early 20th century and how it has changed in the last

Chicago 1876. Colored. 15X12¼. (A map and a view on one sheet.) At top
of sheet is a street block plan of old Coytesville in Bergen County, New
Jersey, situated on the Palisades just north of the George Washington
Bridge and adjacent to Fort Lee. It is now part of Englewood Cliffs.
Below the map is a finely engraved view of a large house in Rutherford
on the banks of the Passaic River, in Bergen County. The scene depicts
tree-lined streets with George Dayton's mansion on a corner, and horse
drawn carriages located on the surrounding roads. A charming 19th

stations & shows tide & fresh marshes, pine & cedar swamps, cranberry
bogs & reclaimed land, both cultivated & meadowland. The map is a
Geological Survey & was published in the “Atlas of New Jersey” by Julius
Bien & Co. Lithographers. It was based on Triangulations of the U. S.
Coast & Geodetic Survey.(The map is cloth-backed. Condition is good with
some light age-toning around outer margin edges & along centerfold not

Yardley & the City of Trenton plus many towns, villages, roads &
railroads & finely drawn topographical details such as hills, forests,
swamps, quarries, canals & waterways along the Delaware River. The map
is a Geological Survey based on triangulations of the U.S. Coast &
Geodetic Survey. It was published by Julius Bien & Co. Lithographers of
New York, for inclusion in “The Atlas of New Jersey”, issued in 1888.
The map is cloth backed & has some light age-toning around outer edges,

based on a U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey published in 1888 by Julius Bien
& Co. for inclusion in “The Atlas of New Jersey.” Map is cloth backed &

Colored. 35X24½. This striking map of the State shows primary cities,
towns & harbors, roads & railroads, rivers, marshes, beaches & inlets.
The map is tinted in degrees of red to indicate height of the land above
sea level from 1,500ft down to 0-50ft. Depicts Raritan Bay, Staten
Island, Manhattan Island & the Hudson River & at New Jersey's southern
extremity is Cape May where the Delaware River, which borders the
western part of the State, flows into Delaware Bay. The map was
published by Julius Bien, a well-known 19th century lithographer, for
inclusion in the “Atlas of New Jersey” in 1889. The map is cloth
backed & has some light age toning around outer marginal areas,
otherwise condition is good. |

Positions of the American & British Armies After Crossing the North
River in 1776.” Phila. 1832. Colored.
9½X6”. Small but very detailed map shows the American & British
encampments in Northern New Jersey and Westchester, on the New York side
of the North River, later named the Hudson River. Depicts Fort Lee, New
Jersey across the River from Fort Washington, where a boom was laid in
the River to prevent vessels from sailing up to Tappan & Dobb's Ferry.
The map shows all primary towns & villages from Trenton & Princeton, New
Jersey to King's Bridge & Phillips on the New York shore & includes
roads & rivers, and depicts Staten Island & New York Harbor with
Manhattan Island, between the North & East Rivers. The map was engraved
by Joseph Yeager (c.1792-1859) for the 1832 edition of John Marshall's
“Life of Washington” originally published in 1804. |
