NY102 - G. WATSON "City of Albany" N.Y. 1891. Colored. 19X29. Two double page sheets titled "Section 32. Portion of Rensselaer County and Bath and Greenbush." Locates portion of Albany County and the City of Albany. The Capitol and Capitol Park, West Park and the Hospital, and each map names property owners and public buildings. Shows street block plans, roads and railroads. Wharves along the Hudson River; soundings, channels & islands appear in the river. Lighthouses along the shore; the Knickerbocker Ice Houses are located and the steamboat landing for the Albany Dayline Steamers. A very colorful map.

Map. shows College Point & West Blvd. along the waterfront by Long Island Sound and shows street & avenue block plans from Avenue H down to 1st. Avenue. Names all property owners & shows their lands in excellent detail. Properties were large and the area was all privately owned down to 1st. Avenue where the school, church, & cemetery were placed. Also shows Powell's Cove on the eastern waterfront.

NY134 - F. W. BEERS "Far Rockaway, Town of Hempstead" N. Y. C,1872. Colored. 13½X11. Finely detailed map shows the Inlet, Rockaway Beach with bath houses and restaurants. Street block plans with names of property owners. Locates public buildings, Central Avenue, the Rockaway Branch Railroad. Cornaga Avenue. Hotels, the Brooklyn Roman Catholic Orphan Asylum Property in the centre of town; the Episcopal Church; schools and a small section of Jamaica Bay.

On the back of this map is a map of "Westville or North West Point, Town of Hempstead" showing street block plans, names of property owners and railroads. Includes an inset map of the town of Little Neck showing streets, property owners and the Little Neck Hotel.

The New York and New Haven Railroad and the Byram River bisect the town which is heavily settled in its center with large landholdings around its perimeter. Very detailed map shows the Hudson River with Tarrytown on its eastern shore, and the path of the Hudson River Railroad running along the river's edge. Locates street block plans with names of property owners, public buildings, commercial and industrial sites, & includes an inset map of Part of Irving, and Beekmantown located at the top of the map is shown in pink. This is an excellent map for genealogical research as it notes the names of all major landholders, and businesses within the towns. Double click to enlarge photoNY192 - F. W. BEERS Richmond Hill. N.Y. 1867. Colored. 23X13¼. This fascinating map shows Richmond Hill in Jamaica, Queens when it was the property of A. P. Man. A note under the title says it is laid out expressly for private residences and restricted against all nuisances. It is noted as being 138 above high water mark & its distance east from S. 7th Street Ferry 7 miles, and west from Jamaica 1½ miles. All streets are 60ft wide with drives 30-60ft. The map shows private properties from Crystal Lake, Forest Park, the Williamsburg & Jamaica Turnpike to Railroad Avenue & Myrtle Avenue ending at the East New York & Jamaica Horse Railroad & the South Side Railroad Station & Clarenceville. Richmond Hill is currently bordered by the Van Wyck Expressway which leads to the JFK Airport & Jamaica Bay. From Beer's Atlas of New York and Vicinity.

Downing at Congress Avenue & Linden Avenue. Locates The Park, The Foundling Asylum and the center of town, which is heavily commercial and populated. Flushing Creek flows past the town and Ireland Creek winds its way around the outskirts of the populated area, to the estate of Mrs. MacDonald, near Ireland Avenue and Golden Street .This is a wonderfully detailed map from F. W. Beer's Atlas of Long Island. 1873.

This intensely detailed map of part of the town of Flushing stretches from Bayside Avenue and a number of large estates to the commercial center & Parson's & Company's Nursery on Bowne Avenue and then to Sandford Avenue & the Sandford Hall Private Asylum of MacDonald & Co. Map depicts all major property owners & commercial businesses & locates Franklin Place and Jamaica Avenue, Percy Street, Madison Avenue and the line of the proposed Flushing Village. As the map was published in 1873, it shows how much of the area was still privately owned in the late 19th century. From F. W. Beer's Atlas of Long Island. 1873.

The chart includes both topographical and hydrographical details, and shows street block plans, anchorages and hundreds of depth soundings in sea areas, and includes navigational notes on tides, lights, beacons and buoys and notes on bridges. Includes Governor's Island, Ellis and Bedloe's Islands and finely detailed street block plans overall, showing both commercial and public buildings, wharves and ferries. Also includes detailed navigational notes and sailing directions for entering the harbor, with a list in top center of lighthouses and beacons. This finely engraved chart is in excellent condition.

This detailed chart shows Manhattan Island bordered by the Hudson and East Rivers. It depicts the New Jersey shore from Jersey City, to Hoboken, Weehawken, Bulls Ferry and Edgewater. The East River is shown from Governor's Island and Brooklyn to Hunter's Point, Astoria, Ward's and Randall's Islands to Hell Gate and the region where the river flows into Long Island Sound at College Point, Flushing and Whitestone. Many depth soundings appear in river and sea areas and the chart locates buoys and beacons, life saving stations, ferries, anchorages, courses and compass bearings. This is an excellent harbor chart from George Eldridge's “Book of Harbor Charts” 1901. Chart No.1.

Beer's “Atlas of New York and Vicinity.” Published in 1867.

This very colorful map was printed on a heavy paper stock and published in Everts “New Century Atlas of Counties of the State of New York” in 1912. Very nice condition.

The map was printed on a good, firm paper stock & published in Evert's “New Century Atlas of the Counties of the State of New York” in 1912. Very good condition.

This intensely detailed & colorful folding map was issued by the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad Co. & The New England Steamship Co. in New York & Brooklyn & shows New York Harbor from Staten Island & The Narrows to Brooklyn & Manhattan & the Hudson & East Rivers, including the New Jersey shoreline from Weehawken to Fort Lee & Coytesville. Depicts The Bronx, Long Island City, Newtown, Flushing Bay, Hell Gate & the entrance to Long Island Sound. The chart depicts the location of all the Piers for the Steamship Lines & includes a listing of all the Lines & their Terminals in New York Harbor. Also includes Lighterage Limits & all towns & harbors, roads & railroads throughout the area. This great map folds down into a brochure which makes it a Pocket Map, so popular with tourists & travelers in the late 19th & early 20th century. The brochure contains added information on the Steamships & their routes along the New York & New England coasts, plus listings of the important United States and Overseas shipping lines that used the Terminals in New York Harbor on a regular basis throughout the year. Colored. 22½X50. This striking map of Long Island covers an area from New York Harbor & Staten Island with part of New Jersey & the Hudson River, including Brooklyn & the East River which flows through Hell Gate into Long Island Sound. Long Island itself is depicted in it's entirety & runs from New York to Peconic Bay & Montauk Point, while the Sound is shown with the coast of Connecticut to Fisher's Island. All harbors, islands, bays & inlets are drawn along the shorelines, while the interior of Long Island is still sparsely settled, & the Long Island Railroad only goes as far as Huntington. A long horizontal map of Manhattan is depicted in lower right showing a block plan of streets & geological contours. The map was published in W. W. Mather's “Geology of New York. Part 1” in 1842 while Mather was serving as Geologist of the First Geological District of New York under Governor William H. Seward. Also used were the topographical surveys of J. Calvin Smith. (Condition is very good with original folds & a few areas of light toning not affecting the image)

This excellent late 19th century map of Long Island & Long Island Sound depicts towns, harbors, roads & railroads & is one of the first maps to show the Brooklyn Bridge which was opened on May 24th, 1883, & which spanned the East River from Manhattan Island to the Borough of Brooklyn. The map shows Kings, Queens & Suffolk Counties & extends from New York Harbor to Montauk Point. Below the map is a descriptive text giving the history of Long Island from the Dutch occupation in 1632 to the date this map was published in 1884. From Hiram Hardesty's “Historical and Geographical Encylopedia, Illustrated.” A fine & historically interesting map by a well-known late 19th century publisher.

Double click to enlarge photoNY272 - ASHER & ADAMS “Asher & Adams New Topographical Atlas and Gazetteer of New York, Putnam, Rockland, Westchester, New York, Richmond, Kings, Queens and Suffolk Counties.” N.Y. 1870. 16X22½. Colored. This fascinating map depicts part of New York State & Connecticut & features Putnam, Rockland & Westchester Counties along with New York & the Hudson River & Long Island. The map shows roads, rivers, canals, railroads, post offices & all primary cities, towns, & harbors and county seats. In lower right is a “Time Indicator” in the shape of a clock face with a building in Albany set into it's center. Under the clock is a caption saying “When noon in Albany the time is as indicated at the various places.” Along the bottom of the map are 29 clock faces showing the time at cities & towns in New York State such as Niagara, Lockport, Buffalo, Rochester, New York, Elmira & Plattsburg etc. relative to the time at Albany. Prior to 1883, when the railroads adopted a form of standard time, people relied upon clocks on public buildings, which were run on a form of local solar time, which meant that small differences existed between the clock times in neighboring cities & towns. It wasn't until 1918 that Congress established standard time zones in the United States. This wonderful map was published by Asher & Adams in their atlas titled “Asher & Adams New Topographical Atlas & Gazetteer of New York” in 1870. (Condition good with slight age-toning down centerfold.) A scarce & attractive map.

Locates Glen Cove & Hempstead Harbor, Port Washington, Mineola, Westbury, Rockville Center, Freeport, Farmingdale, Bethpage, Manhasset, East Rockaway, Long Beach & Jones Beach & shows the County extending from Long Island Sound in the north and the Atlantic Ocean, along the southern coast. Double click to enlarge photoNY278 - J. FENIMORE COOPER “Carte Dressee Pour La Lecture des Pionniers. Romain de J. Fenimore Cooper. Par A. M. Perrot.” Paris. c. 1827. Colored. 7X5. This finely engraved map was published in Paris for a French Edition of one of  J. Fenimore Cooper's books titled “The Pioneers or the Sources of the Susquehanna. A Descriptive Tale,” written in 1823. The map shows Lake Otsego & the town of Cooperstown located on the southern shore of the Lake & depicts the source of the Susquehanna River & forested regions around the Lake. James Fenimore Cooper was born in New Jersey in 1789 & died in Cooperstown (named for his father) in 1851. The map was engraved by Pierre Tardieu, one of France's premier engravers, & published under the direction of Aristide Michel Perrot (1793-1879). This is a fine map for admirers of Cooper's novels. The most famous of which is perhaps “The Last of the Mohicans.” which was published in 1826, 3 years after “The Pioneers.” A decorative title cartouche is drawn in top left & ornamented with leaves & scrolls.

Includes all of Fisher's Island and Fisher's Island Sound, & off the southern shore of Long island the chart depicts Gardiner's Island, Napeague Bay to Great Pond and Montauk with the Lighthouse & Life Saving Station. The chart has both topographical and hydrographical details with notes on soundings, lights, buoys & courses. The chart has excellent detail & was printed on a parchment type paper. Very good condition.

Excellent map depicts part of Little Peconic Bay, with Roses Grove & the Isaac Osborne Estate,& Long Beach, with a number of other privately owned estates. The map includes the town of Sag Harbor, with named roads & ponds along with names of property owners. A bridge is depicted crossing over Sag harbor Cove to North Haven & Hog Neck with Shelter island indicated at the edge of the chart. In 1916 the region was mostly privately owned but this map indicates some planned development with the introduction of the railway and fire hydrants. This is an interesting map showing Southamton in its early days.

Philadelphia 1832.” Colored. 9½X6¼. Fine Revolutionary War map depicts the Hudson River, called the North River, flowing to the Tappan Zee & Haverstraw Bay. Locates Army positions from Pelham to the White Plains & includes Fort Lee on the New Jersey side of the North River with a “chevaux de Frise” (barrier) strung across the River to Fort Washington on the New York side, to prevent enemy ships from sailing up river. The map was engraved by Joseph Yeager (c.1792-1859) & was issued in the 1832 Philadelphia edition of John Marshall’s “Life of Washington” & printed by J. Cressy, a well known Philadelphia printer & publisher. Very nice condition.
