Chart shows Murphy's Is. and South Island and the mouth of the North and South Santee River at Cedar Is. Locates Cape Roman. Marsh Is. Lighthouse. Cape Island and entrance to Winyah Bay or Georgetown Harbor. Chart shows many soundings in Cape Roman Shoals and includes sailing directions, navigational notes. Compass rose.

Chart shows Beaufort on the Beaufort River with Lady Island, Cat, St. Helena, Paris & Parry Islands. Locates Lands End & Station Creek & St. Philip's Island where the Broad River joins the Beaufort River, leading to Hilton Head & the channels to the Atlantic Ocean. Hundreds of depth soundings dot the rivers & chart includes sailing directions & navigational notes. A fine chart in very good condition.

Beaufort, Broad and Chechessee Rivers. South Carolina.” Wash. D.C. 1862. B/W. 33½X22½. Fine large vertical chart shows Hilton Head Island, Parry Island, St Helena Island, Philip's Island, St. Michael, Daw Island, & Lemon Island. Depicts the Broad River leading to Port Royal Sound, Port Royal Island, Beaufort and White Hall. Includes Ladies Island, Coosaw & Morgan Islands, & Cane Island. Hundreds of depth soundings are depicted throughout and the chart includes detailed navigational notes on sailing directions, tides and courses and shows the Martin's Industry Light Vessel, off Port Royal Entrance. A handsome chart in fine condition.

Map shows Charleston and the Gaddesden Fort between the Astley and Cooper Rivers. Depicts Shutes Folly, Hobcaw Point, Hog Island, Farquharsons Distillery, Gaddesdens Bridge and a Redoubt to defend the Bridge, Fort Johnston and Cummins Point where “a Fort is contracted for on this Point.” Two small ship drawings appear off Cummins Point, where the Actron (Actaeon) and Sphinx were burnt during the engagement at Sullivan's Island in 1776. This is a finely engraved Revolutionary War map included in the Westminster Magazine in London in 1780 and published by Fielding and Walker and engraved by John Lodge (fl.1755-1796) a prominent London 18th century geographer and engraver. A scarce issue.

Small map from a Guide Book, shows street block plan of Charleston between the Ashley and Cooper Rivers. Map names streets and includes a numbered reference table indicating locations of public buildings such as the City Hall, Fire House, Medical College, Marine Hospital, Masonic Hall, Railroad Depot, Markets, Court House, hotels and wharves. (Very light staining in lower outer margin not affecting image, otherwise good.)

SC158 - C. G. COLBY “South Carolina” NY. 1857. Colored. 5X6. Small, intensely detailed map of the State shows cities, towns, villages & harbors as they were located in the middle of the 19th century. The map is crisscrossed with roads and railroads linking major centers & the Savannah River flows down to the coast along the border with Georgia. In lower left is a small inset map depicting Charleston between the Ashley & Cooper Rivers, showing James, Folly and Morris Islands and the entrance to Charleston' Harbor. Published in 1857 by Samuel N. Gaston in “The Diamond Atlas” it was drawn & edited by Charles G. Colby (1830-1866.) A charming little map that would look attractive framed.

Attractive small chart depicts a block plan of the Town & Harbor of Charleston between the Ashley & Cooper Rivers, as it was perceived by navigators & cartographers in the late 18th century. The chart shows the course of the rivers & indicates marshes & low scrub areas. Around the perimeter of the town is a fortified wall & Fort Johnson is shown on the opposite river shore. A decorative title cartouche is drawn in lower left ornamented with leaf, scroll & shell motifs. The chart was engraved under the direction of Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772), the Royal Hydrographer & Director of the Depot De la Marine in Paris, for inclusion in “Le Petit Atlas Maritime." in 1764. Very nice condition.

The Ninety Six & Cheraw Districts are outlined but not named. Depicts Pinckneyville, Chatham, Orangeburg, Beaufort, Camden, Edgefield & Georgetown with harbors along the coast from Graven Island, to Cape Carteret & Charleston, Keywaw Island to St. Helena Sound, Hunting Island & Hilton Head. The map was issued in Joseph Scott's “The New & Universal Gazetteer” in 1795, & includes a colorful compass rose above the title in lower left. (Ref. Maps & Charts Published in America before 1800. by J. C. Wheat & C. E. Brun.)

Very colorful map shows Counties in different colors & depicts cities, towns & harbors, rivers & the border with Georgia locating Augusta on the Savannah River. Also shows the Lighthouse at Winyah Bay at the entrance to Georgetown, & the Lighthouse at James Island & Sullivan's Island at the entrance to Charleston Harbor. The map was published by Anthony Finley (c.1790-1840) & engraved by Young & Delleker for the “New General Atlas” in Philadelphia in 1828. Very nice condition.

Attractive & finely engraved map of the State drawn in the early 19th century shows cites, towns, settlements & harbors. The seacoast was charted from Little River & Long Bay down to Cape Roman, Bulls Bay & Charleston, with Sullivan's Island and Fort. The coast continues to St. Helena Sound, Port Royal & Hilton Island to the Savannah River at the border with Georgia. Inland the map depicts many settlements along the rivers & locates the Appalachian Mountains on the Tennessee border. The map was published in 1810 by Matthew Carey (1760-1839) in Carey's “American Pocket Atlas”.
