locates Currituck Court house, The Launch, Gibb's Woods & Munden's
Point. Includes many depth soundings and notes on positions, bottoms and
soundings. An excellent chart in very nice condition. |

detailed chart shows the coast from Sand Shoal Inlet and Ship Shoal
Inlet down to Cape Charles and Cape Henry. Hundreds of depth soundings
are shown offshore and in the channels leading into Chesapeake Bay.
Includes navigational notes on lighthouses, tides and bottoms as aids to
mariners approaching the Capes. Engraved by E. Yeager and C.A. Knight
for the U.S. Coast Survey. |

Mob Jack Bay and the entrance to the Severn River and Monday's Creek.
Locates New Point Comfort, the Poquosin River, & Drum Island Flats.
Depicts small block plan of Yorktown with its riverfront location and
hundreds of depth soundings are drawn throughout the region and into
Chesapeake Bay. A fine chart in very good condition. |

JOHNSON & BROWNING “Johnson's Georgetown and the City of Washington, the
Capital of the United States of America.”
NY. 1862. Colored. 24X15. Attractive and colorful map shows the
Capitol in the center of a large street block plan of the City and it's
environs surrounded on two sides by the Potomac River and it's Eastern
Branch. Locates the White House called the President's House, the Mall
and the Smithsonian Institution, the Washington Monument and the
National Observatory. The map shows clearly how the streets were laid
out with a central core, like a compass rose with radiating rhumb lines.
Includes 3 finely engraved vignettes of 1.) the Smithsonian Institution,
2.) the Capitol and 3.) the Washington Monument. From Johnson's New
Illustrated Family Atlas Compiled and Engraved under the Supervision of
J. H. Colton and A. J. Johnson. 1862. |

1862. Colored. 17½X26½. Fine map shows counties in different colors and
roads leading to Richmond & Petersburg, Charles City, Williamsburg,
Gloucester & Hampton. Depicts Hampton Roads at the entrance to the James
River with depth soundings indicated along the course of the rivers
including the York River where it flows into Chesapeake Bay. This is a
wonderfully detailed map published by Johnson & Ward in New York in
1862. |

- J. BIEN “Military Map of Suffolk and Vicinity for Brig. Gen. E. L.
Viele.” Wash. D.C. 1867. Colored. 16½X27. Map depicts Hampton Roads, the
Elizabeth River, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Gosport & Suffolk and shows the
Dismal Swamp just over the Virginia/North Carolina border. In top left
is an inset map of Fort Esperanza, Texas, and a large inset of Morris
Island, South Carolina. On the island are camps, gun batteries,
observatories, and the Lighthouse Inlet that borders the west side of
the island. According to the most recent data the island has disappeared
through erosion, and the Lighthouse is standing in only a few feet of
water. From the Atlas to Accompany the Official Record of the Union and
Confederate Armies 1861-1865. Published by Julius Bien in Wash. D.C.

Phila. 1879. Colored. 11½X14. Finely engraved map shows cities, towns
and villages in both States as they were situated in the late 19th
century. The map depicts roads, railroads, rivers, mountain ranges and
all counties are shown in different colors. Includes a good depiction of
Chesapeake Bay from the Susquehanna River at the Head of the Bay down to
the Bay's entrance at Cape Charles and Cape Henry. This extremely
detailed map was published in Samuel Augustus Mitchell's “New General
Atlas” of 1860 with editions to 1879. (On the verso (back) are maps of
Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey.) |

Phila. 1832. Colored. 8X9. Fine Revolutionary War map shows the
positions of Gen. Knox, Gen. Clinton, Count Rochambeau, M. de Lafayette,
& Gen. Washington, on the plains outside the town of York. Depicts the
French & American Artillery & Baron Steuben's position with the
Virginia, Maryland & Pennsylvania artillery. Locates roads and the field
where the British laid down their Arms, & depicts the township of York
on the York River, near Wormleys Creek. The map was engraved by Joseph
Yeager (c.1792-1859) for the 1832 edition of John Marshall's “Life of
Washington” originally published in 1804. Good condition with bright
color. |

Civil War map shows Hanover, New Kent, Charles City, Chesterfield &
James City Counties, with details of cities, towns, roads, rivers &
elevations. Locates Army positions, fortifications and defences &
depicts the York and James Rivers. Published by Julius Bien (1826-1909)
a well-known 19th century lithographer, for inclusion in “The Atlas to
Accompany the Official Records of the Union & Confederate Armies.
1861-1865”. Very good condition.
